Famouse Grouse x Scottish Rugby

characterful Clubhouse

The Famous Grouse has partnered with Scottish Rugby for more than 35 years. To launch their new Characterful Clubhouse Fund, which offers clubs across Scotland up to £10,000 to improve their clubhouse, we made two films about what these places mean to the people who grew up in them.

We took three Scotland internationals back to where it all started. Meryl Smith returned to Murrayfield Wanderers with her dad, Ed, and brothers Pete and George Horne went home to Howe of Fife. They looked through old team photos, caught up with familiar faces and remembered the people who kept their clubs going.

The films are full of old stories and familiar characters. They show that a rugby club is more than a pitch, and that it’s the volunteers, the coaches and the friendships that stay with you long after you’ve moved on.

The films ran across the Scottish Rugby and The Famous Grouse Instagram channels and in the Scottish Rugby newsletter. They picked up more than 170,000 organic views, encouraging clubs across the country to share their own stories and apply for the fund.
